The ventilation system was noisy, the pillows & pillow cases smelled, one chair stank, the maid told my wife that dogs were allowed to stay in rooms. The maid finally told my wife that the pillows were going to be destroyed and the chair taken from the room. Friends stayed in another room where he stepped in a puddle of unknown origin right in the room. A dog?

Stayed one night on 4MAR10. Hotel lobby was nice as was the general Japantown area. However, the room was not so nice. Wall paper all over the room was peeling off. Not just one strip or one area, but all over the room. Additionally, the toilet did not flush properly - it appeared to be some sort of low flow system. However, the bathroom was quite nice. I'm not sure why this hotel is generally rated highly, but i would not recommend it.

On this trip checking in was a nightmare, the hotel not having my reservation on file from the travel website That was a first in the 10 years I've stayed at this hotel. When it was the Miyako Hotel, it was always my first choice place to stay in San Francisco. It is now the Kabuki Hotel, "refurbished' and run by a different hotel chain. I have stayed here numerous times in the past ten years and have recommended it to friends. While the personnel were helpful and polite, the hotel itself seemed very worn. On the plus side my room on the top floor was quiet, but the furnishings were chipped and scratched, the wall paper around the vent was discolored and coming off, even the soap dish was chipped. On my second night 2 face towels were missing, but the front desk took care of it right away. I noticed a tray of leftover food left on the floor by the elevator for an entire day, including the following morning. The hotel has lost it's freshness, but the location - adjacent to Japan Center and all the great shops and restaurants - can't be beat. It is close to the bus line to downtown and a convenient stroll to the trendy eateries and boutiques that line Fillmore St a few blocks northwest of the hotel. If I stay again at the Kabuki I will request a KIng Tower corner room instead of the Japanese style room (during previous stays the bathroom in the King corner room seemed newer). Also, the 16th floor Japanese room I stayed in didn't have enough electrical outlets. I had to unplug the only desk lamp in the room to plug in my battery charger.

My wife traveled to SF this weekend and booked her room through Travel online and her worst fear came into play. When she arrived the Hotel did not have her Travel online reservation in the system. I think most people fear that if they book through an online service, the reservation wouldn't be there. Well the front desk at the Hotel Kabuki was of no help to her...they said there policy is that they cannot do anything if a room is booked through a 3rd party (Travel online). They gave her a phone number for Travel agency and said call the number. They treated her poorly and put her through hell. My wife called me and I was able to get through to Travel online and they called the hotel to figure things out. We have always stayed at the Hotel Kabuki every time we travel to SF, needless to say we will no longer stay here nor use Travel online.
