The hotel tomo is located in an excellent area close to anything you would need. Its a short bus trip or walk from anything in san francisco. The rennovations are pretty cool if you like the whole j-pop thing. Stayed for a week and will stay again on next trip to san francisco.

We could not have asked for anything better!! We had a family member at UCSF for a transplant and wanted to stay in a hotel that had a reasonable price but was a decent place to stay. After reading a lot of the reviews and looking at the pics of others we chose the Hotel Tomo! What a great place to stay!! The employees were efficient and helpful and the hotel was very welcoming! The room we had was super clean, and the beds were very comfortable!! The rooms are decorated in a fun/funky way with the mural on the wall that made it unlike any other hotel we've stayed in. They have a small onsite parking garage and another overflow parking garage within walking distance. Both of them are secure parking and reasonably priced for SF standards. We did a little shopping in the local Japan Town "mall" across the street and it looked like there was some great places to eat close by. The hotel was close enough to where other family were staying and UCSF so it was convienent for us. We have recommended this to our other family and friends and we will stay there any time we go to SF - it was that good!! Unless you are on your honeymoon, or want to spend a ton of time in your room - (and why do that when in SF?) This is a great place to stay!!

The Hotel is very clean, well located and quiet. Directly across from the hotel entrance is Japantown! It is a "no frills" place, there is no in room microwave or coffee maker. The hope is one will dine downstairs at the restaurant. THere is a refrig and limited cable. All staff except one night desk clerk were very helpful and spoke excellent English. Door to Door Shuttles are available from Airport to Hotel if call in advance... The other guests were young couples, parents with teens, German and French tourists. The Muni Public bus is on the diagonal corner- for $ bucks one can travel anywhere in San Fran -including bus changes for up to 3 hours!. To save money we ate for cheap at A Mom and Pop coffee / home made moche shop across the street, on other corner is a Mom N Pop Grocery store- They make fresh Sushi Take out plates daily starting at $! Stock up AM (they sell out by dinner time) and keep in room frig for fabulous eats! Japantown is actually modest, abut 4 blocks total. Young Japanese culture lovers will find some anime shops with DVD, CD's, Toys, Models and books in this genre in the three little indoor malls. Even at night, this neighborhood is quiet, almost sedate ( I liked that, but my 20 year old daughter thought was a little too boring) This hotel is very near the Sundance Theater, a new Japan Pop Building and numerous Thai, Indian, japanese, and Korean eateries.

I needed a relatively affordable hotel to stay in during this year's ETD Pop in May. I have a few requirements for a hotel I stay at while clubbing. This is not a hotel to throw afterparties but a comfortable place to rest up between nights of raving/clubbing when you grow out of the raucous afterparty and just want a comfortable place to rest up with a guest. The rooms are colorful to look at, the view from the balcony is relaxing and the little details, things like an in room safe, refrigerator and a clock radio with an ipod dock AND a line out to attach your own speakers made it an excellent choice for this trip. The staff was very helpful. I'm not one to expect or demand four star service but after years of staying in the lower tier of lodgings and a few four star places I would recommend this hotel to someone with tastes like mine. The difference in accommodations I actually used between this hotel and say a four star in London was almost zero. Basically no complaints. San Francisco is such a tiny city and the majority of things a tourist would want to see are very close I would rate the location as good, not great, great would be two minutes walk from the downtown BART station. You're going to take a bus from the BART but that was no big deal to me. I didn't cab it around or rely solely on public transportation, the walk to liquor stores, groceries, bodegas, sushi, standard fare food was no problem. Decent shopping within walking distance. If you are above staying at say the Civic Center Inn but not to the point where it's Hilton or nothing, stay here.
