The room itself looked very nice. I was aggravated at the multitude of attempts to get me to spend more money. It seems grasping and pushy. The hotel room was not cheap, $*, but the hotel plans on you spending much more. Yes, there are robes in the closet, but you can't use them unless you want to buy them for $*. Beautiful HD television set, but they haven't even paid for HD programming so everything looks terrible. The only way to see something in HD is to rent a movie, at $* a pop. The mini bar included such items as tooth brushes and soaps. Aren't hotels supposed to offer these to guests at no cost? We are, after all GUESTS. The food from the hotel restaurant was also highly priced and not very good. Honestly, sauce on a margerita pizza? Anyway, it was conveniently located if you want to be downtown. So, that was nice.

The staff members were uniformly friendly and helpful. The location is great: Powell's bookstore and the Pearl District are a few short blocks (which is the kind Portland has) away, and the central downtown area is even closer. The room was clean and well-equipped. We signed up for the free Kimpton hotel membership before we went, and were greeted with a coupon for free goods from the mini bar and a restaurant discount. The attached restaurant, Pazzo, is also great. Wonderful food blending Italian style with fresh Northwest ingredients. Overall, a wonderful place, down to the poodle-shaped chalkboard in the lobby listing the names of dogs staying there that day.

11/18/2009Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. nice location and rooms. breakfast in the restaurant was outstanding. try the walnut bread. we have stayed here before and will return.

I loved this boutique hotel experience. It was a pleasure staying for 5 days and every member of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was a great size with wonderful showers and storage space. I did not hear a peep and slept soundly. I also highly suggest dining at the restaurant Pazzo. It was by far the best meal to date. The only problem during my stay was in the business center where all the computers were down. I notified the front desk and they were on it immediately. Down the street, the Monoco hotel (a Kimpton property as well) let us use their business center in the meantime. Top notch service!!
