My boyfriend and I planned a weekend of Padres games and partying, which also needed a place to crash. We decided on the Keating and were absolutely stunned with the experience. As soon as we entered the lobby, we were greeted by friendly staff, deep reds and the first elevator in San Diego. We originally booked the Deluxe King room and walked in to music playing, a chic design and everything you could ask for, plus things you wouldn't even think of asking. We then decided to stay another night, but as reservations go, had to choose a corner suite. Oh my, what an amazing room. Not only was the shower the best, with dual-entrance, rain fall-type shower head, but a mirror above the shower as well. The bed was the best night's sleep I've ever had; sleeping on that bed was like a day at the spa. I awoke refreshed and any back pain subsided. An in room espresso machine gave way to a pleasant morning after a night of Gaslamp bar-hopping. We came home from the ball-game Saturday night to find cookies and tea waiting for us. I tell you, it could not have been better. If I had to say anything negative, it would be that the TV's picture was choppy and the sound would cut out, I assume due to the connection, as well as the universal remote would not control the DVD player. That is everything bad I can possibly say. It was by far, THE best hotel experience we've ever had, and already plan to stay again. I wouldn't recommend as a family experience, but for a couple, absolutely perfect.

The Keating Hotel is indeed a unique, potentially fun change from the routine. The technology available is pretty impressive, and the deco is interesting, although not cozy. The bed is extremely comfortable. There are problems that have apparently been noted, though, that persists, and will be a real problem for this property to truly fulfill it's promises. The espresso machine is novel, but I'm a tea drinker, and impossible to get a black tea or even a cup of hot water. I did ask the valet who brought a cup of hot water, but very imconvenient. Staff were friendly, but not always informed. The lounge doesn't open until 9 pm, and is closed some evenings. With the lounge closed, there are no onsite options for a relaxing glass of wine end of business day (even in minibar). The breakfast is minimal and hardly worthy of advertising. The main problem is the noise, though, that comes from the street partially, but primarily from the lounge. It's probably not a good sign that ear plugs are supplied in the vanity kit. If you are there for a good party and don't require sleep, this is a fun, unique stay.

The staff at the Keating are really there for you - 24 hours a day. Special requests are handled very well (such as having tea in the room instead of coffee). The staff know the area well, so don't be afraid to ask where they would go.
The rooms are a unique open design - the shower is a cube in the corner but you feel like you're standing in the rain. Very modern with a distinct Euro feel. You must like the color red!
The area is the heart of the Gaslamp quarter - so lots of dining, shopping, clubs in easy walking distance.
Would definately stay there again.
