Loved this little place. They were a bit disorganized with check in and housekeeping but overall that was not an issue. As most of the reviews I have read mention - great breakfast. The location is excellent too. We met a lot of nice people at the afternoon happy hour, which made our four night stay even more enjoyable.

We definitely enjoyed our stay, but I'm not sure that I would rate this hotel as high as some of the other posters. What I didn't like: When we walked down the hallway and into the room, I did not get a good feeling of cleanliness. It's not that they forgot to vacuum or anything and there definitely was not any mold anywhere, it's just that everything is so old and thus there is a dirty look/feel to the walls. It needs to be repainted or at least thoroughly washed to get out the grime. We went in Jan. and it was cold in the room at night, even with the normal heater cranked to the maximum. The bathroom was especially cold as there is no heat in there. The fireplace was nice and warm, but we had to turn it off at night as the light it gave off made it difficult to sleep. Also the bathroom fan didn't work. What I liked: Fantastic help at the front desk - we got great recommendations from them in a very friendly manner; outstanding free breakfast - definitely better quality food than those offered by the chain hotels; great location; and the housekeeping did a good enough job in daily cleaning so I was able to get over my feelings of the hotel being old and not clean looking the longer I stayed. Would I stay again - I'm not sure. The problems I saw are all fixable, so I would probably look at the reviews again before making a decision.

Spent 3 nights at the Petite Auberge which is 2 short blocks from the cable car line. The staff was very eager to please. The room was cozy with a fireplace. A full breakfast was served each morning in a pleasant dining room and in the evening wine and goodies were available in the lounge. Hot coffee , tea, bottled water, sodas, and homemade cookies were also available throughout the day. Never had to wait more than 5 minutes for our car from the valet parking. Definitely would recommend the Petite Auberge if you want to be close enough to Union Square but don't want to be accosted by street people.

The hotel is in a great location but does not have parking, parking is about $30 per day in the near by lots. The room is tiny, the shower is tiny too. (it is small for 1 person) They served an apple pie at night and the atmosphere in the dining room area was nice too. The bed was one of the worst I have ever slept on. Overall I would not stay in this hotel again, I would prefer to be 20 min. out of town and stay in a more modern place with parking, better room and nicer bathroom.

We were guests at this hotel on May11&12,2010. The hotel was clean, the staff was more than helpful and the wonderful breakfast provided each morning was beyond continental.(Eggs and breakfast meat, several breads for toast, several choices of juice,French pastries, fresh fruit tray and hot tea and coffee,) It was very well located for seeing the city--all the interesting spots were either nearby or reachable by cable car or trolley with stops just two blocks from the hotel. All in all a very pleasant stay.
