20th ski season trip staying in this motel. Treated like family by staff. First floor fireplace room in main building is a good size room for two adults. Breakfast in building next door is better and offers more variety than most motels which do not have attached restaurants. Close to downtown shopping and restaurants. Reasonably close the the Elk Preserve and many types of wildlife on the east side of the preserve.

Be very careful making your reservation. They wrote my reservation for a different month (!) than the date I asked for and then charged me a one night fee when I didn't show up (on that date)! Unfortunately, 49er doesn't send out any confirmation notice, and the credit card company wouldn't step in, because there was no written record of the confirmation. The hotel staff were very belligerent about it and the desk manager told me that if I tried to contest the charge, 'we'll fight it!' so BEWARE.

we had a suite which was really nice for 5 adults- in building with elevator - other building has steps only. Breakfast had good variety - doesn't start until 7 am in building across parking lot. Other than being crowded it was good. Close to town for walking - most restaurants don't open for dinner until 5:30 or 6 pm and want reservations and are rather pricey. We ended up eating in the bar area and could only get sandwiches.

The carpet was old and didn't lay flat. The bed wasn't firm enough. I wouldn't call this a 3 star hotel. The laundry room caught on fire during our stay and we had to sit in the parking lot until fire could be put out. Not a good experience all around. We did enjoy Jackson and the hotel was within walking distance of everything we did during our stay.
