We made our reservation six months in advanced. Phoned two weeks before our scheduled arrival to ensure that the room was guaranteed to our credit card as we wouldn't be arriving till late in the evening. When we arrived we were told that the hotel was full and were sent to another Marriott hotel across town. I DO NOT understand the point of a guaranteed reservation if it is in fact ignored. We came back to your hotel the next morning at around 9am the next morning to meet our friends. We were assured by the hotel staff that we would be into our room as soon as possible. As check out was 11am and housekeeping was told our room was priority one, we would be in our room by noon. We finally got in at 3pm. The hotel industry is very competitive. I don't believe in rewarding bad service.

Nothing special. Rooms weren't 4 stars. Decided to get away for the weekend and reserved a room with two doubles for 3 people. Upon arrival, we received a King and a fold out bed. I had to request a double the next day. At the end of our stay, the front desk refused to compensate for the mix-up. It is not worth the price.Stick with the B&B's or an equivalent 3 star hotel in downtown Charleston. They are worth the price.

The Renaissance Hotel is located in the heart of the historic district of Charleston, is within walking distance of the Market area, and French Quarter,is a half block off King street,if your looking for shoes king street has an abundance of them, from casual walking to trendy high heels.College of Charleston is three blocks away off of George Street, the Citadel is a short drive from hotel. The Battery and Rainbow is only a short Trolly Ride (runs every twenty minutes). Restaurants are plentifull, I recommend Hanks Seafood on Haynes Street, be sure to try the ""She Crab Soup,"" I can not say enough about the staff at the Renaissance, they were friendly and very helpfull, the Concierge was very helpfull with information, directions and reservations for the various activities, and sites we did while in Charleston, when we do return to Charleston we will book this hotel. The only thing I didn't care for was the parking, but then every hotel in the Historic District has the same problem, parking in the area is at a premium.

Having stayed here before, and loving it I had no issues rebooking. However I was sorely disappointed. The hotel was under construction, my room reeked of smoke and bacon from uncleaned filters (the hotels explanation not mine), the fire alam went off and this was all before 9 AM. The staff while cordial was basically disinterested in the problems presented. With so many lovely hotels in Charleston the Renaissance will no longer get my business.
