We stayed in the Tower, and the rooms were very nice. No coffee in the lobby on weekends was a disappointment for me. Strange decorating choice. All floors in the Tower had exactly the same prints of photos around the lake area in exactly the same location on each floor. Looking out across the Atrium one could see that each floors decor was the same--a little unimaginative. Plastic not glasses was provided with ice chest--odd for the quality of the hotel.

The Shearaton when it's finished will be the top hotel in Maryland outside of Baltimore. The combination of Starwood amenities plus its unparalleled location on the Columbia Waterfront make it, for me, the best hotel experience in the Columbia area-nobody else comes close &the Columbia Hitlon is second. I may sound like an ad but I'm not. I do not like highway hotels or hotels seeded in office complexes-after waking up in your sumptous room at the Shearton Columbia, you can go for a run around the lakefront, or in the evening walk to the Columbia Mall or go to any of the fine restarurants walking distance from the Hotel. The renovation is a pain, especially if you are not in the Tower (ask for Tower when you reserve; but the location and rooms make up for it.

My last stay in June was a nightmare. The renovation was incomplete, and because I was a late arrival, I was bumped from the tower (main section) to what must have been the furthest room away. To get to that room I was given a map with complex directions, had to navigate up and down at least two sets of stairs that connected various wings, walked through a construction zone, only to get lost. Signage was non-existent. Hauling a 40-pound suitcase at 11:30 pm ... up and down stairs ... construction ... very bad experience. At checkout my final morning, I was not the only guest who expressed shock and dissatisfaction. Shame on Sheraton.

I am a starwood guest member and try to stay at Sheratons all the time. I love the comfort and quality of most Starwood Hotels. My family stayed there about a year ago. I have always been very pleased with every Sheraton and that is why I usually try to choose Sheraton when traveling for both pleasure and business. I have been totally happy and then I stayed at this one. Wow I just couldn't believe it! It needed serious renovations and smelled of heavy perfume. Everything that should be quality from the rooms, beds, towels, soaps, food...it was all cheapened. We are getting ready to go back to Columbia in a few weeks and while searching I came across this hotel and was reminded of my horrific stay and had to write a review because I think it is important that people know what they are getting before spending their money on what they feel is a Sheraton Hotel. If you are looking for the class, quality and comfort that most Sheratons offer do not stay at this hotel. This CAN NOT be a true Sheraton hotel!!! Some where along the way it must have changed ownership because they took the quality of a true Sheraton and totally cheapened and ruined this hotel. Of course the cost remains the same. I highly recommend not staying in this hotel.

I recently stayed at the Sheraton columbia for business and it was awesome. The staff were very kind and accomodating. Everyone I past said hello and asked if everything was ok with my stay. I stayed in a newly renovated room and wow what a difference. I will most defintely stay here again and ask to be in the lodge section.
