I enjoyed my stay at the Silversmith Hotel. The employees were very pleasant and helpful, and my room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean. The location was very good, too: just a couple blocks from the Art Institute and Millennium Park, and surrounded by good restaurants. I believe the theater district is very close. It is just two blocks from the blue line train, which takes you to and from O'Hare, and it was an easy bus ride to the natural history museum, aquarium, and planetarium.

We atayed here during Taste of Chicago June 2010. The room we booked was small and clean. The air conditioning worked very well as we kept our room very cool. We did not have a view, but we were only in our room to sleep or relax after a hot day in the park. We did not have any problem sleeping as others have stated, but again our room was toward the back of the hotel, not near the L. There were quite a few places to eat within walking distance to this hotel and we did catch the "free" trolley to Navy Pier one night.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that they did not have a "deluxe king" room as we booked. We were slammed into a queen room no bigger than my closet at home. I returned to the desk to complain. I told them I was charged for a king room and that is what I wanted. The concierge came over and asked what the problem was, and she then talked to the person behind the desk, and amazingly our room became available. The accomodations were nice, but this hotel is directly on the L line, so if you are a light sleeper you will not be able to rest. It is however 1 block away from Michigan Ave. and Millenium park. We were able to walk to the museum campus and North to the Hardrock Cafe area. Parking cost us $* per night, I would suggest finding an alternate parking place if possible.

When we first arrived in Chicago we went straight to our hotel. We took a cab because we knew that this hotel would be hard to find. The taxi driver knew where it was so that worked out great. When we were checking in the manager said that they had overbooked our room. As he was explaining apparently this had happened to a few other people too.;. So he set us up in a new hotel all expenses paid even the taxi ride to the new hotel! When we got to the new hotel, The South Loop Hotel, it was on the outskirts of Chicago. WAY FAR AWAY FROM THE HEART of Chicago. We had originally picked the Silversmith Hotel because it was in the middle of all the action. No need to take a cab anywhere. But our new hotel was way far away and it was $10+ every time we had to go somewhere. Overall the Silversmith Hotel looked lovely but we wouldn't know that for sure cause we never got our room. But they did give us one free night at their hotel so we will be staying there next time we go to Chicago.
