This Hotel is an older property. Situated on the Pacific side of Cabo, on a beautiful beach. Lovely location! We sat on the beach or at the Restaurant watching the whales and the whales being chased by the whale watching boats. The Hotel is very clean, maid service and the maintanence of the property is very, very good. However the property is undergoing major reconstruction/demolition, not even renovation, it is in the process of demolishing the Hotel building by building. The original room we had booked was an oceanfront suite and when I asked why we weren't getting what we had paid for I finally found out that these rooms were no longer available because they were due to be demolished. The Manager of the Hotel was very accomodating and did everything in his power to make us happy and we did receive a free up-grade to a bigger room although this was not explained to us initially. There is also only really one restaurant available on the property for the "all inclusive meal plan" which was fine for us as we were only there 4 nights. We still got taxis to and from the town for $* each way and went out for dinner around the Marina area, you can walk but it is a good walk and coming back to the hotel it is all up hill. This is definitely a less crowded facility with a very nice pool and swim up bar. The other Hotel guests were largely timeshare guests who were return visitors for the last 20 years or more and were very friendly and helpful for insider tips. The Grand Solmar is the new Hotel being built by the same owners and is right next door it is also undergoing construction.

Location was great. Food was good. Price was very good. Weather was perfect. Solmar offered an all-inclusive program that few of the employees seemed to know anything about. We had to constantly tell employees that there was no charge. Steaks were not included and neither was room service. This was never listed anywhere until we checked into the hotel. The restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. The front desk staff was lacking. One front desk person was not at all friendly. There was no communication within the hotel of basic information including the hotel's own "theme" nights. The overall experience was good, but the hotel did not seem professional.

My wife and I stayed at the Solmar in December, which is a slow time in Cabo we found out. The staff was friendly to a point. It seemed like they were a lot friendlier to those patrons who were older and seemed to have more money because they were potential buyers for the timeshares. As soon as you arrive at the hotel they try to sell you timeshares. As far as the rooms go the Solmar is just average. The rooms are outdated and there was no feeling of luxury. The resort was dead and there were no activities nor service on the beach. It felt really deserted. The construction didn't bother us too much although if we ever went back to Cabo, which we probably won't because it is just a big money grubbing city, we would not stay here. Maybe if you are in the 50+ age group. We are in our 20's and we were looking for a party: dancing, drinking, pool party, etc. The city itself is full of vultures and they all want tips. Everyone is trying to sell you something and everyone is practically grabbing for your money. It was an unpleasant experience because we were there to have a good time and the people of the city got really annoying after a while.

The resort was a great choice for us. This was our second trip to Cabo but our first staying at the Solmar. Despite construction at one end of the resort as they begin the process of renewing and improving the resort, after checking out the construction site...other than being in awe of how fast and Quietly they build, there was no intrusion or disruption as a result. Our view of the ocean and experience from the pools and resort bars was not affected at all. The resort was spotless both in interiors and exteriors and the landscaping was beautiful. The staff was so friendly that even as you met workers on their way to different parts of the resort, they greeted guests with a smile and a response. Our needs appeared to be anticipated with service of snacks, meals, or drinks at poolside as if they could read our minds. This was one of the most relaxing vacations I have had in a long time. With the added bonus of being within walking distance of the marina and nightlife of Cabo when we wanted to liven things up a bit. It was perfect! We will be back.

For our first time in Cabo Solmar was a wonderful resort for the money! We saw whales everyday from our balcony! The pools were clean the staff especially Cira Raymundo and Jose were extremely professional and helpful! We found the food to be very good - and room service was not that expensive. The sunsets were indescribable. The downside was the sales pitch to buy into their new condos. The construction began at 6:30 every morning and continued until 9 oclock at night. It did wake us up every morning including Sunday. We ate at the Tanga Tanga #40NE side of Tesoro on the marina#41 and had tacoes for 1. We also recommend the Crazy Lobster and the scallop tacos! Try the Mango Dacquiris at the Somar. Happy hour is from 3 - 6 everyday. Overall we had a wonderful vacation and wish that they werent upgrading this lovely two story resort that sits gazing at the Pacific Ocean with a beautiful beach for you to walk on.
