Stayed in nonsmoking King room 211 in March 2010. Appears recently updated. Everything looks new. Interior stairways, so no icey steps to deal with. Small desk, Internet Access, refrig, microwave, room safe, 27-inch? TV w/ remote, LazyBoy chair, single cup coffee maker, alarm clock in King room. Bathroom was very new and very clean; showerhead high enough for a 6-foot tall person. Only down side to the bathroom is the toilet seat is cheap plastic, otherwise top notch. Ice machine in lobby. I have travelled 200,000 miles, and this is one of the best deals I have seen (about $70 the night I stayed). No bad smells. Bed is very firm, as are pillows. Tuck the window curtain up onto the window sill, or it will flap around all night. Free continential breakfast includes fruitcup, hot/cold cerials, bagels, toast, fruit juice, etc. Restraunt just a few blocks away. Arrived at 1 AM and night staff was very nice and helpful. They honored the online rate. Day staff nice too. Personal wakup call. I did not hear anyone all night, but it was not very busy either. Easy to find, just 2 blocks from highway RT99. Just follow the signs. No complaints. Very happy and will definately stay here next time I am in Altoona. Why pay more?

We booked the room through a online travel website for Friday May 15. Upon entering the room we discovered that it was a smoking room. The clerk initially stated that there was a non-smoking room available but upon noting that we booked through a online website said that there was nothing he could do. the website contacted the hotel on my behalf and had no success. Super 8 Corporate office stated that as a franchise there was nothing they could do. The property owner lives in South Dakota and has no local interest. I would advise everyone to seek lodging at a place other than this one. The online travel website was great attempting to work on my behalf.

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE, HOTEL IS DECORATED TASTEFULLY WITHOUT EXTRAVAGANCE AND THE STAFF IS VERY POLITE AND ALWAYS HELPFUL. CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST WAS NICE. HOTEL REALLY SHOULD NOT TRY TO ACCOMMODATE YOUNG CHILDREN AND ELDERLY. TOOK MY TODDLER ABOUT 2 MINUTES UPON ENTERING ROOM TO FIND A BROKEN SCREEN AND A WINDOW THAT DOES NOT HAVE A LOCK. BTW - WE CHECKED IN EARLIER THAN MOST GUESTS BUT WERE GIVEN A THIRD FLOOR ROOM. ADDITIONALLY, HAD TO KEEP REFILLING THE ICE HOLDER {NOT EXACTLY A BUCKET!!!} BECAUSE THERE WAS NO FRIDGE. THERE WAS NO MILK OR JUICE - EVEN IN THE VENDING MACHINES - EXCEPT AT BREAKFAST - SO WHEN YOU NEEDED SOMETHING FOR THE CHILD THERE WAS NOTHING WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE. ADDITIONALLY, I DIDN'T APPRECIATE SEEING AN 80+ YEAR OLD COUPLE HAVING TO CARRY THEIR LUGGAGE UP THE STAIRS BECAUSE THERE IS NO ELEVATOR OR EMPLOYEES AVAILABLE TO ASSIST THEM. I WAS RAISED TO RESPECT MY ELDERS AND THOUGHT THEY SHOWED NO CLASS IN THAT WAY.

The first time I was at this hotel it was great for the money. so to the same place we stayed at the same hotel of course when we returned 2 months later the hotel was horrible the beds were below my knees and seem to be all box springs, the room was a smoking room even though I booked a non-smoking room and the rooms down the hallway must have been party rooms because they let the heavy doors slam shut til around 3:00 am. I guess I'll be looking for other hotels in the area next time.
