The room that was part of the Travel agency vacation package was claustraphobic. It was very small and a limited view from a small patio of either the pool or courtyard neither of which was worth viewing. We asked about an upgrade to the new part of the hotel. They said yes, but it would cost us another $*plus added taxes and fees. We bit the bullet and said yes because we wanted to have a view of the bay and did not want to keep bumping into each other in the small room for a week. The newer room was about twice the size in square footage and came with a refrigerator and microwave and a nice view of the water. The hotel restaurant that was open for breakfast and lunch was good, but a very long walk from our room. We ended up driving there after the first visit. The other restaurant's food was good and much closer, but only open for dinner. A nice pool with needed wind protection screens was near by. We had a few mechanical problems with the crazy lighting system, but they were quick to send someone over to help us. I still have trouble with a hotel/motel charging you $* so you can park your car in a parking lot outside your room. Next thing you know there will be pool charge and a charge to use the coffee maker. Sounds like they have been taking lessons on extra charges from the airlines. If you are unfamiliar with the area, staying in the Mission Bay area of San Diego and driving to and from the interstate highways is difficult. Sea World is easy however and a shuttle bus runs from the hotel. Good hotel if you don't mind paying the extras.

I stayed in this hotel three years ago and it was fine. I booked the hotel through Travel agency. I paid extra for a bay view room. Ended up getting a room far from the water in a section that appeared to house hotel employees. Maid service was terrible. One day one of our beds was made and the other was not. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!

The first thing I noticed was the high vegetation in front of the sidewalks in front of the rooms on ground level units. My unit was on the ground floor. It would be nice if the hotel could trim the plants down or thin them out to prevent muggers from hiding and stalking, some of the plants are 3 or 4 feet high. A customer doesn't like wading through the plants to get to the rooms. The room smelled like it had just been painted. The front desk said the room had been painted two weeks ago, they did offer to put me in a different room the next day. The microwave didn't work. It was plugged into the same outlet as the coffee maker which had power and worked. I didn't have time to change rooms the next day, I was up early to watch the Farmers Insurance golf Tourney at Torrey Pines. I ended up staying in same room since I arrived at the hotel late in the evening on Fri . The air conditioner in the room is high on the wall near the ceiling. To access the controls I used a chair to stand on to turn on the a.c. The a.c. works. Noise travels through walls easily , need more sound proofing in walls. Per the staff, most of Dana's bldgs 20 years old;. Food at Blue Pearl was very good. No bathroom in B. P. go outside walk to lobby 40 yards away to use b.r. . Didn't use pools, they looked well kept, people using them. Wireless internet didn't work, spent 20 min. on phone with i.t. to get their server working. Most of the staff friendly and helpful. Room was very clean incl. bathroom. Might stay again if they address issues.
