My husband and I first stayed at the Chateau 40 years ago while on our honeymoon. We've been back many times, the Lake Louise area is our favorite vacation spot. The rooms at the Chateau are adequate, some but not all with spectacular views; the decor in the rooms is not exceptional. In the past the food in the restaurants was very good, and in the Poppy Room, reasonable. This summer (2010) we did not find the quality of the food acceptable, especially considering the high prices. For example, the halibut I ordered for lunch in the Poppy Room was rubbery, tasteless, and overcooked. After two small bites of the fish I told the waitress that it was not fresh or properly prepared and asked to send it back to the kitchen. I was charged for the halibut anyway even though I ordered a bowl of soup as the its replacement; the manager politely explained that this was the restaurant's policy. The tea in the lobby is still a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it: lovely harp music, beautiful views, delicious tea, pastries, sandwiches, scones. The hotel itself seems to be primarily a huge commercial enterprise, somewhat out of character for a national park, and reminiscent of Disney World. Next visit to the area we'll probably stay at Emerald Lake Lodge or the Lake O'Hara Lodge (if we can get reservations).

Beautiful hotel and grounds on amazing Lake Louise. Our room had an amazing view of the lake and was quite large, clean, and had a good sized bathroom. Seems like the room was updated recently as the bathroom and furnishings were gorgeous. The hotel is quite large itself with a lot to explore. Concierge was great and very helpful for directions and restaurant suggestions. Only downside was parking was quite pricey at 20 CAD/night.

Very unique hotel in a fantastic location. A lot of shops and restaurants provide good choices. Very big hotel with a lot to explore. One thing is they charged parking and internet for hotel guests. I guess internet can be hard to maintain for such a big hotel. The room can use a little update but they are nice size. Otherwise very enjoyable stay. Some people are having wedding here. I can see this is one of the most romantic places there are on earth.

The Chateau has the most beautiful location in the Canadian Rockies. The views of Lake Louise and the mountains and glacier are visible from most of the dining rooms and although we did not have a lakeside room, we felt that we enjoyed the views most of the day. There are several hikes of all difficulties available from the hotel. There are also onsite canoe rentals and horse back riding. Our room was a supreme deluxe and it was nicely furnished, roomy with a good sized bath. It overlooked the stables and woods, but also we could see a delivery driveway on the side. We ate in the hotel deli , the lounge as well as the FormaL Dining room. We enjoyed the food ( simple but very well prepared although expensive, and the views. You will be dodging busloads of tourists who crowd the hotel lobby, shops restaurants and lawn all day. My only disappointment was the formal afternoon tea. We had a seat by the window and again enjoyed the view, but the tea sandwiches were pretty plain and the fruit cup seemed less than fresh. The scones with cream and jam were good. The tea service was very slow. I would only order tea and scones next time and save the $*per person cost of the full tea. Park your own car for $*per day, with easy in and out access. We enjoyed our stay with proximity to Banff ( about 30 min by car) for shopping and lots of small restaurants and quick access to the Icefields Parkway for sightseeing and short hikes. I would stay here again.
