This is my first experience with a Ritz Carlton, so my expectations were high. For the most part, is was a positive stay, however... Once inside the hotel, it was everything you would expect. Friendly, professional staff; fabulous room and outstanding in-room dining service. The however is getting to the hotel lobby. Should you actually enter the mall the hotel is part of and not the street entrance, you are met by scores of out-of-work people just hanging out. While I never felt unsafe, it certainly wasn't the Ritz experience I was expecting. Also, there is not a lot going on for the surrounding blocks. Again, once inside it was fine, but I'm not sure I'd come back.

Our room was the cheapest, on the 8th floor, sounds high but the lobby is on the 6th and the 7th is meeting rooms and lounge / restaurant. We could hear lounge music at night while in the bathroom / tub but it wasn't terrible in the sleeping area. What impressed me most is that our room already had the crib set up - a real crib (small size but not a pack-n-play) and they had included for the first night anyway baby shampoo and outlet covers - it was so thoughtful. She loved walking to and fro around the room and looking out the window at the cars below. There was a mini bar but I would have preferred just a standard mini fridge so that we could keep our water and apple juice cool without worrying about my daughter getting into the alcohol. The valets were very nice if a bit pushy - we ended up street parking because our car is not very expensive and Cleveland parking is free on weekends rather than pay $*each time we come or go from the hotel. The hotel provides a map to go jogging and water bottles when you return - a nice idea and the hotel is attached to the same mall as the Marriott Renaissance which has a nice lobby fountain. I asked the front desk for a map of how to get to the botanical gardens and instead she printed off a mapquest directions with no map - we followed them but they were not right - a street did not exist and we would have been better off just driving down Euclid and watching for signs to the garden to get to the wedding rehearsal on time. The shoeshine was nice.

Our check-in was fine. Upon arrival to the room it was uneventful which is less than what I would expect from the Ritz. My wife and I live just outside of Cleveland and I wanted to pamper her with an impeccable stay at the Ritz and all the ammenities and services which are to accompany a stay at the Ritz. Upon returning to our room, we opened the refrigerator to poor a Grey Goose mixed drink only to find that the seemingly sealed bottle was previously consumed and filled with water. After calling room service, rather than a sentiment of surprise and apology, found this to be routine and simply offered a replacement. For starters, I am amazed that anyone would do this. I am also concerned of the source of the replacement water. I cringe when I think that at the Ritz, I consumed an unknown substance which could have been toilet water for all I know. After 30 minutes, there was no promised call from the server and no replacement bottles of Grey Goose. I called again and he assured me I would receive a phone call. Clearly the Ritz understaffed even though they charged me rate which gave no indication of limited staff and service. The server was great, simply unable to service the entire hotel solo. Fast forward-I am home now to find that my one night stay has been billed to my credit card atleast 4 times on separate days! Of course accounting is closed and no one else is cross-trained to correct over the weekend. I had to cancel my credit card to prevent over $1000 being charged to my card without authorization (I believe that's fraud).
