We had a terific stay on a very busy weekend (Black Friday). We got to the hotel at 7:30 a.m. expecting to just leave our bags at the desk and they had a room ready fo us! The hotel is right across the street from Union Square but our room was cozy and quiet, we didn't even hear any other hotel guests, although there were people everywhere. The restauran in the lobby is also quite remarkable. Altogether we had a delightful time.

Let me start by saying, do not book here or you will be disappointed. My family stays in SF every Thanksgiving, and this was our worst pick. The great part about the hotel is that it's location can't be beat. Directly in the middle of it all...Union Square, Chinatown and close to Fisherman's Wharf. The bad part is our room was so tiny that I had to kick the bed up against the wall to open the bathroom door. The furniture is shabby, and old. The staff is smug and not concerned with your stay. Our room was FREEZING COLD. We got moved to another lame room and the heater still did not work. It was like camping. Stay at another one of the fine hotels in this area, and you will be much happier, and at the same price.

Room #502 was larger than what I expected and very comfortable for two people. Windows open to overlook the corner of O'Farrell and Powell, 13-year old daughter was quite pleased to realize H&M was located right across the street. Easy walking distance to all Union Square signature stores: Macy's, Louis Vuitton, Simayof, Tiffany, William Sonoma, Sak's, Loehman's, Juicy Couture, Victoria Secret, Forever 21, Gap, Crate & Barrel, Armani Exchange, Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Puma, Body Shop, Westfield SF Centre, Old Navy, Barney's, Nieman Marcus, Gumps etc. etc. etc. Great location for first time visitor or long time traveler/visitor like me! Large king size bed with pillow top comforter, multiple soft pillows without asking, roomy desk and fully stocked mini fridge and bar if you need it. Walgreen's is located about 50 yards from hotel entrance so go buy your own snacks. Bathroom is small but adequate, counter space is non existent. Shower is roomy. Luxury shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soaps provided. Also robes, blow dryer and full ironing board and iron. Housekeeping staff was very efficient and kind. Complimentary internet and newspaper provided downstairs each day. Loved the location as it is perfect for going to and from shopping through out the day. Central to shopping, eating and sightseeing as cable cars are literally right outside the front door and Muni buses and BART too.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel: great value.Ask for an inside room and you'll never believe you are located in the heart of bustling downtown: sleeping was no problem for me. Room service was prompt, front desk friendly and informative. The renowned restaurant was really pricey but also very fine.
