I 've learned to never judge a resort by these reviews. I feel that most time, people who write them are people who simply can not be pleased. I do, however, like to read them to get information from them. Over the years, we've learned a lot of tips on what one could or should do or not do. Recently returned from a 9-day trip with a group of 9. It was pretty much what all the negative reviewers said it was. I'm not going to repeat all of them. The resort is in need of being updated, the rooms especially are not accommodating and the housekeeping service was terrible. My issue was not getting washcloths! The Italian Restaurant had a limited menu, of which you couldn't get anyway because they were out of everything. The buffet was pretty much the same thing every meal, but there was always something one could find that was appealing. Resort is too far out from the market area, and you're stuck using the hotel taxi. Well, what are you to do. You make the best of it anyway. The sun and beach were great!!! It sure was a lot better than being in the weather we dealt with all winter Upstate New York. Would never go back nor recommend this resort.

We stayed for 5 days and had a wonderful time. The food was good service was good drinks could have used a bit more potent booze but we just drank more the staff was awesome and really friendly. Nightly shows were a lot of fun. Buffet always had a different theme each day and the food was always good. Rooms were clean and typical for hotel rooms. Beautiful white sand beach and plenty of entertainment fro all ages for no cost. If you are looking for a 5 star this is not it BUT is definatley a 4 star we would for sure stay again. We had a absolutley great vacation here.

After reading all of the reviews before we left for Viva Fortuna, we were hesitant about our trip and almost canceled. We decided to go ahead and give it a try and were so happy we did. Everything was wonderful! We had the run of the house (whatever is available at the time) and got a beach front room on the second floor. It was such a beautiful view! The food was good, but nothing special. The Beach was amazing! We went on the snorkeling trip which was amazing! We have snorkeled all over, and the Padi staff at Fortuna was really awesome! The only thing I would suggest; is better life vests (the kind you can let some of the air out and not a full lifejacket. Oh, and the time share people only asked us once if we wanted to hear about them, we said no and they told us to enjoy our stay! The locals selling their wares on the beach didn’t really bother us, they asked a couple of times and if you say no, they didn’t seem to bother after that. We enjoyed the nightly shows that the staff performed in nightly (I really don’t know how they found the time to practice with all the other things they do during the day). There is a need for improvement in the building but you can see were they are trying to fix-up the place. If you are the type of person that is looking for a 5star resort, then this is not the place for you. If you are someone looking for reasonable, relaxing quiet place to take your family on a budget, then you will find this a great place. If you are the type of person who wants lots of nightly activates you may not like it at the Fortuna. We enjoyed it because it was quiet and away from everything. We can’t wait to go back to Viva Fortuna.
