ROULETTE RULES, HOW TO PLAY ROULETTE GUIDE & GENERAL INFORMATION [Information on roulette game rules, roulette history, American vs European Roulette]
Roulette
Early records indicate that the first form of the roulette wheel originated in the seventeenth century out of a mathematician’s fascination with perpetual motion devices. By the late eighteen hundreds with the addition of the “0” and the “00” roulette was one of the most popular casino games in both Europe and the United States. Today roulette is still a very popular casino game all over the world. There are two types of roulette that gamblers can play in casinos and they are American Roulette and European Roulette. The largest difference between the two kinds of casino roulette is the number of zeros on the roulette wheel. On the European Roulette wheel there is only one “0” while there is an additional “00” (double zero) on the American Roulette wheel. The first zero was added by a man from France named Louis Blanc in order to increse the house odds. Later in the U.S. the “00” was added to further increase the house odds. The house advantage in European Roulette is at a modest 2.7 percent while the American Roulette house advantage is at 5.3 percent.
The roulette wheel is a round wheel that spins and has thirty-seven slots (American Roulette wheel has thirty-eight slots). There are thirty-six numbers and one zero and in American Roulette there is an extra double zero. A ball is dropped onto the spinning wheel and the objective is to predict which number or slot on the roulette wheel the ball will land. Depending on how you place your bet, the payout ratio will vary.
Roulette Payout Ratio
The roulette bet with the highest payout ratio is the straight bet. A straight bet at the roulette table is a bet on any single number and it pays 35:1. The split bet is a bet on two numbers and it pays 17:1. The street bet is a three number bet from a horizontal line on the table and the payout is 11:1. A corner bet which is a bet on a block of four numbers pays 8:1. The line bet pays 5:1 and is a bet on six numbers in two rows. The column bet is betting on three vertical columns and pays out 2:1. The dozen bet pays out 2:1 as well and is a bet on sets of twelve numbers, low, middle and high. The even bet is money for money. The payout is 1:1. Roulette players placing an even bet can bet on even or odd, black or red or high and low.
Roulette Strategies
It has been said, “You cannon beat a Roulette table unless you steal money from it.” But there are still many who claim that there are roulette strategies that work. The Martingale betting strategy calls for the roulette player to double the original amount wagered after each loss, but it is also said that this system could never work. There are many such strategies that roulette players will employ in attempt to overcome the advantage the house has and rumor has it that none of them work. There have been some roulette players who used computers to calculate where the ball was likely to fall and some were historically successful in momentarily beating the roulette house odds, but there are also famous accounts of huge luck gambles that turned out huge roulette winners as well.
