Craps Information

Craps, which was not long ago called Crabs, is a casino table game played with dice. The game of Craps is believed to have originated from an ancient game called Hazard, the name derived from the Arabic word az-zahr, which is the plural for dice. How and why the game became called Crabs is a matter of speculation and debate, but needless to say the game was later called Craps as it is still called today. The casino gambling game Craps is a hugely popular game worldwide today and it is said that more money is wagered on the game of Craps than any other casino table game. Many casinos throughout the world offer Craps to their gamblers and people from all walks of life enjoy the game. Craps is especially popular in the United States Casinos.

In the casino game of Craps, the house retains the advantage as far as the winning odds are concerned, as is the case with any other casino game. That being said, there are many bets that the gambler can make in the game of Craps that improve their odds and conversely, there are many Craps bets that greatly increase the odds of winning for the casino. For example, in the game of Craps, the player can place a Pass Line or Come Line bet and the house advantage is only 1.41% as opposed to the ridiculously high advantage the house has for an Any Seven bet, which is a whopping 16.67% advantage. There is an odds bet that can be placed in certain situations that can significantly increase your odds of winning or lower the house odds, but at no time does the casino actually lose their advantage in the game of Craps.

The Don't Pass and Don't Come bets have pretty favorable odds for the Craps players, as the casino's advantage is only 1.36%. The Place bet for 6 or 8 gives the house a 1.52% advantage. The Place bet for the 5 or 9 gives the house a 4% advantage and the 4 and 10 Place bet gives the house a 6.67% advantage. A Craps bet of a Buy or Lay will give the house a 5% advantage. The Buy bet on the 4 and 10 when the commission is only paid upon a win, reduces the house advantage to only 1.67%. Field bets in Craps yields the house a 5.56% advantage to win. When 3 to 1 odds are paid on 2's or 12's, the house advantage shrinks to only 2.78%. Big 6 and Big 8 bets give an almost 10% edge to the house while the house has an 11.11% advantage to win with Hard 4's and Hard 10's as well as Elevens and Any Craps bets.

Craps is considered to be mostly a game of luck rather than skill, but knowing how to play craps and your odds of winning can greatly improve your success as a craps player. To learn more about playing craps from other craps players you can check out the Craps Forum.
