I'll Have Another has horse racing fans on the edge of their seat with nail-biting Triple Crown anticipation. Like other Derby-Preakness winners, the world waits to see if this horse is a winner or simply another Triple Crown "near miss." Although they are no longer running races, the legacies of these Thoroughbreds have multiple points of fascination.

BALTIMORE - The final hour of the Kentucky Derby telecast on NBC drew nearly 15 million viewers, a 6 percent increase in total viewers over 2011. Since the Super Bowl, only two sports telecasts had a bigger audience - the NCAA semifinal between Kansas and Ohio State and the championship game 2 nights later. The Derby did better than the Masters or the Daytona 500.

On May 19, 2012, I'll Have Another won the Preakness and now shares a history with 20 other horses that have accomplished two legs of the Triple Crown. Called Triple Crown 'near misses' or 'Derby-Preakness doubles,' I'll Have Another has officially set up fans for a nail-biting three weeks that will end on June 9, 2012 with the running of the Belmont Stakes.

As the school year comes to a close, children and youths ages 7 to 17 are practicing for the Soap Box Derby race next month. Drivers were helped by their parents or guardians putting together their cars at a recent clinic.

Soap Box Derby: The Pentucket Kiwanis Club is looking for students ages 8 to 13 to participate in its annual Soap Box Derby, to be held June 2 at Bradford Elementary School, 116 Montvale St. Check in is at 9 a.m., and parents or guardians must accompany each team member. Hansen’s withdrawal this morning (Monday) from the Preakness, following the defection of Trinniberg a couple of days earlier, means that, unless something bizarre happens or we suddenly get a new shooter with lots of early speed, the pace in Saturday’s Preakness will be very different from the scorching pace we saw in the Kentucky Derby.
