COLUMBUS — Hollywood Casino Toledo may open its doors no earlier than May 29 as state regulators Wednesday handed its Cleveland counterpart the honor of becoming Ohio’s first Las Vegas-style casino.

The commission charged with regulating Ohio’s four new casinos has set opening dates in May for two of them—Horseshoe Cleveland and Hollywood Casino Toledo.

A source participating in the meeting has told WTOL the two possible opening dates for the casinos are the weeks of May 14 for Cleveland and May 28 for Toledo.

With many of the regulatory functions out of the way, Cleveland and Toledo operators have been racing to submit internal control and logistical plans. Those include ordering gambling equipment and installing and testing slot machines — a major undertaking — to the satisfaction of state regulators.
