An Oneida County man accused of murdering a 6-year-old child has been found not responsible due to "mental disease or defect."

The judge in the David Trebilcock trial announced his verdict, ruling that Trebilcock is not responsible due to mental disease or defect. Trebilcock admitted to stabbing six-year-old Lauren Belius, but the defense argued he was suffering from schizophrenia at the time. YNN's Sarah Blazonis has the latest.

UTICA – “Twins have a special bond that should never be broken,” Oneida County Judge Michael Dwyer said before issuing his decision finding David Trebilcock not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect for the murder of 6-year-old Lauren Belius.

Only moments before exiting the building, the Belius family sat in Judge Michael Dwyer’s courtroom Tuesday when he declared David Trebilcock not criminally responsible for fatally stabbing Lauren on July 19 due to mental disease or defect.
