BC 49 is a draw lottery game played in British Columbia. The game is administered in-province by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) a Crown corporation. There is also a nationwide game with a similar name called Lotto 6/49 and several other provinces have their own "49" games such as Atlantic 49, Ontario 49, and Quebec 49. BC 49 is available for play online via the BCLC's PlayNow website as well as retail lottery outlets, and at bars and pubs throughout the province.

The jackpot stands at two million dollars ($2,000,000) every draw with two drawings held each week. Tickets cost $1 per play and for an extra dollar, players can buy the Extra option for a chance to win up to $500,000.

BC 49 is a pick 6 game that is played from a pool of forty-nine numbers (1-49). Six main numbers plus a bonus number are drawn. The bonus number can help players win the second or sixth place prize. There are six prize pools in all including the jackpot. All prizes are fixed amounts ranging from $5 to $2,000,000. If more than one winning ticket is sold matching all six numbers the $2m is shared among all winners. If seven or more tickets match to win the second place prize, which is usually $75,000 all winners will share equally in a $450,000 prize pool.

The age of majority in British Columbia is 18, and the minimum age to play the lottery or redeem prizes is the same. Winners of lotteries in Canada do not pay taxes on the 'windfall'. Only people physically located within the province at the time they log in or create an account can play online.

How to Play

Log into your PlayNow account if you are in the province. Otherwise, visit one of the thousands of ticket outlets available around the region. Simply choose six of your favorite or random numbers or select Quick Pick to let the lottery terminal select numbers for you at random.

You can choose Combos for extra chances to win. The cost per game and the odds remain the same, but simply choosing five numbers for Combo 5 (cost $44) will generate forty-four number combinations by adding every other number to one of yours. For more details on Combo play please visit bclc.com

You can also play as a group in an office pool or syndicate and you can buy tickets in advance for multiple consecutive drawings.

BC 49 drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday and tickets are on sale until 7:30 pm on the day of the draw.

How to Win BC/49

The best way to win is to match all six of your numbers with the first six drawn by lottery officials to win the $2,000,000 jackpot. If more than one person wins the jackpot is divided equally. Barring that, matching all four of your Extra numbers to the four drawn from a pool of ninety-nine (1-99) will award $500,000!

When the draw is held six main numbers and a bonus number will be selected from the pool of forty-nine. And then a seventh bonus number will be drawn. Matching two main numbers plus the bonus number (2/6+B) will award a prize of $5. The odds are 1 in 81.2 of completing the combination.

A $10 prize is awarded for matching three of six (3/6) and the odds are 1 in 56.7 of matching half the numbers.

To win $75 at odds of 1 in 1,033 you will need to match four of six (4/6).

A $750 prize is awarded to players who match five out of six numbers (5/6) and the odds of that occurring are 1 in 55,492.

The bonus number comes back into play for the second place prize of $75,000 dollars. Match five out of six main numbers plus the bonus number (5/6+B) to win. The odds are 1 in 2,330,636.
