New Jersey Pick-6 With Xtra
The New Jersey Pick-6 With Xtra was launched as Pick-6 in May 1980. The name was changed when the XTRA option was added on January 15, 2015. The game went through several other changes throughout the years until the current 6/49 format was adopted in late 2000. The jackpot starts out at two million dollars ($2,000,000) and increases by at least two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) until a ticket is sold that matches six out of six (6/6) numbers. The jackpot can grow by more than $200,000 each draw but the formula is complicated and it's not easy to predict the next jackpot based on ticket sales and the current U.S. Treasury Bond interest rates.
Tickets for the basic games cost $2 with an additional $1 charge when you choose to play the 'Xtra' game. The Xtra game adds a multiplier to prize values when you match 3, 4, or 5 of the 6 drawn numbers. Drawings occur twice each week on Monday and Thursday evenings. You must be at least 18 years old to buy tickets or play the New Jersey lottery. Taxes are withheld from winnings and winner's name, town, and county may be revealed.
How to Play New Jersey Pick-6 With Xtra
If you are playing for the jackpot, be sure to check the cash option at the time you buy your ticket if you don't want to be locked into the annuity. However, if you win with the default annuity disbursement, it is possible to request that the New Jersey Lottery sell the annuity for you.
Choose six numbers from the 49 number pool (1-49) or mark the Quick Pick circle on your play slip to have the lottery computer choose six random numbers for you. If you want to add $1 for a chance to multiply non-jackpot prizes and to win $2 if you match 2 numbers (2/6), mark the Xtra circle. If you want to buy tickets using the same numbers for up to 26 subsequent draws, mark the number of draws you wish to buy tickets for. All sales are final, so be sure you have taken all of your preferred options before handing your ticket over or paying the retailer. As soon as the retailer hands you your ticket, sign it so that only you will be able to claim the prize.
You can also start or participate in an office pool. If you do, be sure to have the group rules in writing so there aren't any misunderstandings.
Sales cut off at 7:57 pm each Monday and Thursday evening and the drawing is held soon after.
How to Win New Jersey Pick-6 With Xtra
Players who match all six numbers (6/6) win or share in the jackpot. When two or more winning tickets occur, the jackpot is distributed evenly to all winning ticket holders. The prizes for matching five of six (5/6) and four of six (4/6) are parimutuels so the prize pool rises and falls depending on ticket sales. Matching three of six numbers (3/6) pays three dollars ($3) and tickets with Xtra will pay two dollars when two of six (2/6) numbers are matched.
If you have chosen the Xtra option all non-jackpot prizes will be multiplied by the Xtra number. Multipliers include 2x, 3x, 4x, and 5x. The odds for each multiplier are 4:10, 3:10, 2:10, and 1:10 respectively.
The odds of matching all six numbers (6/6) are 1 in 13,983,816.
The odds of matching five numbers (5/6) are 1 in 54,201.
Matching four numbers (4/6) will happen once for every 1,032 tickets sold on average (1:1,032).
Matching three numbers (3/6) will pay $3. The odds are 1 in 57.
If you have purchased the Xtra option you will win $2 and the odds are 1 in 8.
The overall odds of winning any prize in Pick-6 are 1:54 and the odds with Xtra are 1:7.
