Impressions: I had very low expectations for this place after reading some negative stuff online, but it wasn't bad. The only thing I didn't like was the amount of smoke and some dealer uncertainty about kill pot rules. I played 3-6 and 2-4. Lots of games available - 2-4, 3-6, 5-10, 10-20, 50-100 limit hold'em; NLHE (don't know stakes); PLO.
Atmosphere: Unique room - separate from rest of casino, sort of a warehouse feel. Exposed brick walls and high ceilings, with some sunlight coming in from casino atrium. Chairs have armrests and are very comfortable. Tables are large - almost too big in fact.
With large tables and chairs, it does get cramped in the room, which is my main complaint. Tables don't have cup-holders, so everyone uses those mobile trays, but it's hard to walk between tables with those things everywhere. Bathrooms are close as the crow flies but not as the poker player walks, as you have to weave your way through the tightly packed tables and then through a few slot machine banks in the main casino.
There are two rooms, one smoking and one non-smoking. The smoking one has the high ceilings so it makes it tolerable.
The non-smoking room includes a couple Poker Pro tables ($3 max rake), which they were really trying to get going and finally did in the evening with one 3-6 and one NL.
Mostly middle-aged and older men at my 3-6 table. Pretty nitty. A younger couple who said they had never played live before sat down on opposite sides of me, and I asked the husband if he wanted to switch seats with me to be by his wife. An older guy who overheard said it's bad etiquette for family members to sit next to each other. I said it didn't bother me and he acquiesced, and the guy sat by his wife.
Dealers: Dealer were very friendly, but not very knowledgeable or fast. First eight dealers we had at 3-6 said that for a pot to count for the kill, it had to have at least $20 in it. Then dealer #9 says there's no money requirement, and we asked the floor, who comes over and says that if there's a flop, the hand counts for a kill no matter how much money's in there. He said they just started dealing kill games this week and that was the reason for the confusion.
Dealers were a little too chatty and not fast enough for my taste, but their chattiness did make them seem friendly. Several were women with short arms who always had trouble reaching the chips on the big tables.
Food: Fast drink service and hot waitress uniforms with decent-looking waitresses in them. Waitress were friendly and came by a lot. You have to go down the hall to get food, but it's not far.
Service: Called an hour ahead on a Saturday afternoon and was 1st on the list when I got there. High turnover at tables, and front desk constantly calling names to fill spots. They were calling names for a 5-10 limit table for an hour or two before it actually got started.
Comps: Floor readily gives $6 food comps. BBJ was huge - $76,000.
