BCN World Casino Spain Review
Construction on (working name) BCN World Casino, at the "Tourist and Recreation Complex", the entertainment and leisure complex on the coast of Tarragona in northeastern Spain’s Catalonia region, is expected to begin sometime in 2017. According to the latest reports, the gaming space at the casino has been reduced to 4 percent of the total project, or about 128,000 sq ft of the total 3.2m sq ft footprint.
The mega entertainment complex is approximately an hour by car from Barcelona and in addition to its more than 10,000 hotel rooms, is expected to include as many as 5,000 residential units and a meeting and exhibition center, as well as retail space.
As of August 2016, and confirmed in January 2017, three bidders are contending for the casino component; Hard Rock, Melco, and Peralada in association with Genting. Each has tendered a bond of €2.5m as a commitment to buy land where the casino, hotels, and shopping areas will be constructed. A single large-scale casino is now planned for the project.
