In February, Marriott International, Inc. announced plans to open the Cartagena Marriott Hotel in Cartagena, Colombia by 2018. The hotel will be Marriott’s first in the port city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.

The project is located in the Marbella district of Cartagena on Avenida Santander, approximately halfway between Rafael Núñez International Airport and the ancient walled Old City. The Hotel will have views and access to beach and lake. According to Marriott, the hotel is going to be part of a large mixed-use development that will include a casino, shopping center, and state-of-the-art movie theater.

The property will have 201 spacious and modern guestrooms and suites, two restaurants, ample meeting and event space, a pool bar and grill, a lobby bar, two coffee shops, outdoor swimming pool, and fitness center. Prodesa S.A. and their partners are developing the hotel under a franchise agreement with Marriott International.

A fishing village on Colombia's Caribbean coast, Cartagena consists of two small neighborhoods, the historic Walled City or Old City, which has some of the periods most well preserved Spanish architecture and the cobblestone streets are dotted with cafés, and has access to beautiful white sand beaches; and Getsemaní , where you’ll find museums and fine restaurants.

Marriott International’s Chief Development Officer of the Caribbean & Latin America region, Laurent de Kousemaeker said the chosen location is the most important resort destination in the South American country. He said, “The blend of its economic and corporate activity generated by the Port, the leisure appeal of its magical historic walled colonial city, annual festivals and nearby Caribbean beaches; combined with the group demand with its solid convention facilities and improved international connectivity, provides all the necessary ingredients for a thriving destination.”
