Owned and operated by Kentucky-based Churchill Downs Incorporated, Derby City Gaming Hotel is located on Poplar Level Road near the Watterson Expressway approximately 15 minutes from downtown Louisville, Kentucky. After a $76 million dollar, 135,000 sq ft property expansion is completed in the spring of 2023, including an expanded gaming floor, the now 228,000 sq ft property features an adjoining five-story hotel with 123 rooms, including 14 corner suites and a VIP suite, upscale-casual dining, and a sports bar with a live entertainment stage, big screen TVs and self-serve sports betting kiosks. Regarding the casino, the expansion opened with 200 additional gaming positions, with space for up to 400 new positions, and also includes a VIP gaming space. 

The casino offers more than 1,300 historical racing machines (HHRs) and a dedicated area for simulcasting. The main gaming area is all non-smoking, however, there is an 8,000 sq. ft. smoking-friendly gaming patio for guests. The covered patio features overhead heaters for seasonal weather. 

Players can choose from select complementary non-alcohol drinks and coffee offered at several drink stations throughout the gaming floor. The Center Bar located right in the middle of the gaming floor with lots of big-screen TVs circling the whole bar offers great choices including Bacardi, Bombay Sapphire, Old Forrester, etc. The two restaurants offer a variety of tasty options for all appetites ranging from mouthwatering traditional dishes to hot chicken.

The gaming facility is a 21+ establishment.

Owner Churchill Downs Incorporated's all-new 43,000-square-foot historical racing machine entertainment venue, Derby City Gaming Downtown, is slated to open in 2023 in the heart of downtown Louisville at 140 South 4^th Street, at the corner of South 4^th and West Market, diagonal to the Kentucky International Convention Center.
