On April 24, 2025, consortium partners MGM Resorts International and Orix Corp officially broke ground on the nearly $9 billion project on Yumeshima, an artificial island in Osaka, Japan. The development will be home to Japan’s first integrated resort casino, with a grand opening planned for 2030.

MGM Osaka will feature 2,500 hotel guestrooms spread across three brands: MGM Osaka, MGM Villas, and MUSUBI Hotel. The resort will also include a 3,500-seat theater, 400,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space, a spa and fitness center, a shopping mall, dozens of restaurants and bars, a public park, and a dedicated facility to promote tourism throughout Japan.

The casino floor, limited by law to no more than 3% of the resort’s total indoor space, is expected to feature about 2,000 slot machines and 200 table games, though MGM has yet to reveal the final layout.
