Louisville headquartered horse racing company, Churchill Downs Inc. (CDI) announced in Feb. 2024, that it plans to open its seventh historical horse racing entertainment venue in the City of Owensboro, Kentucky. The $100 million Owensboro Racing & Gaming will be located on an approximately 20-acre site at the corner of US Highway 60 and Wrights Landing Road east of the city in the county seat of Daviess County. Plans for what will be CDI's seventh historical horse racing (HHR) entertainment facility in the state reportedly include 600 state-of-the-art historical racing machines (“HRMs”), a retail sportsbook, simulcast wagering, and multiple food and beverage offerings.

According to the company, the property will operate as an annex of Ellis Park Racing & Gaming, which it acquired in 2022, and will open the first quarter of 2025. 

Revenue from the venue will reportedly support purse funding for the thoroughbred racetrack's traditional summer racing meet.
