Shinnecock Casino Hamptons Review Jump to comments

Update: In Jan 2023, Lance Gumbs, tribal ambassador/vice president for the National Congress of American Indian for the Northwest Region, said he could not discuss any future plans for a casino in the Hamptons. This, after plans for the proposed Hamptons casino were changed due to "billionaire neighbors" not wanting gaming there. The Shinnecock Indian Tribe then revisited plans for the site of the Nassau Coliseum Hub, which was the tribe's "number one location" to begin with.

Around the same time, the Las Vegas Sands Corporation announced a multi-billion dollar deal to build a large hospitality, entertainment and casino complex on the [Coliseum] site. However, in Feb 2024, Sands' plan for a $4 billion development, including a casino, was complicated when a state judge invalidated Sands' $241 million agreement to buy the lease from Nassau Live Center LLC.

On February 17, 2021, the Shinnecock Indian Nation announced its plan to build and operate a Class II casino on its 900-acre Southampton reservation on Long Island, New York. According to the tribe, construction on the 76,000 square foot facility will reportedly start the summer of 2021 and include 1,000 video lottery terminals (VLTs), 30 Texas Hold’em table games, a bingo parlor, dining establishments, and entertainment venues. The casino is expected to be completed within 14 months.

The tribe is waiting for an environmental impact study to be approved so it can begin construction. The study will reportedly be completed in 12 to 14 months.
